Vibes
Having designed and built a complex system we seldom understand how it
really works or why it does in fact not work. Common debugging tools
are of little use here. The applications of today and tomorrow
involve tens of thousands if not millions of concurrent entities.
Inspecting stack frames will not help. In an attempt to give users a
better view of The Big Picture for their system, we have
designed and implemented the Vibes
behaviour understanding toolset. Vibes takes over where other tools
leave off and provides infrastructure for the analysis of system
behaviour both in the domain of the system and in the more generic
domain of computational behaviour.
Vibes is implemented in Smalltalk on top of CodA and PortedObjects.
The current version is somewhat limited in terms of the number of
computational objects implemented. Future plans call for their
continuting implementation including several more graphical
presentation objects.
Several documents
describing Vibes and related projects are available on-line.
