This Homepage uses `Content negotiation' feature of HTTP/1.1 to determine the language to send. HTTP/1.1 clients send HTTP request with the header `Accept-Languages' to server. For example, if client accepts languages Japanese and English (Japanese preferred), client sends the request with the line
Accept-Languages: ja, en
and server determines which version of document to be sent. This feature is also supported by some HTTP/1.0 softwares, like Apache server (all official version), Netscape Navigator (after 3.0?), and Microsoft Explorer (after 3.0?).
However, because this feature is not yet used commonly, many client-softwares are not configured about preferred-languages at all. If you wish to change the behavior of my homepage about language selection, you have to configure your client-software properly. Following is the way to configure...add the line
Netscape*httpAcceptLanguage: ja, en-US
to the X resource files (generally ~/.Xdefaults of ~/.Xresources). Netscape Communicater 4.02 (Unix) might be able to configure with this way or the way same as Communicator for Windows. (Information welcomed.)
Choose Preferences - General Preferences - Language and add the Languages in order you prefer.
Choose Preferences - Navigator - Language and add the Languages in order you prefer.
